

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has been placed under full alert status ahead of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which begins Monday, July 6.
NCRPO spokesperson Major Hazel Asilo told DZRH News the full alert status took effect at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, as part of heightened security preparations for the historic proceedings.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that around 6,000 police officers would be deployed around the Senate complex and other key areas to maintain peace and order throughout the impeachment trial.
The PNP also said it has not monitored any serious security threats but remains on heightened alert to ensure public safety as the proceedings commence.
The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, formally opens the trial of Duterte on Monday, marking the start of a historic constitutional process that will determine whether she should be removed from office.
The Senate is scheduled to convene as an impeachment court at 2 p.m. Duterte has been ordered to appear in person or through her legal counsel after senators issued a summons last week.
Duterte is facing an impeachment trial over allegations that include the misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and issuing death threats. She has denied all the allegations against her.
