The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is not ruling out the possibility of arson in the fire that hit the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) office in Quezon City on Wednesday.
Interviewed by RH Jecelle Ricafort, NBI Director Jaime Santiago said the bureau is investigating all possible angles in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Santiago confirmed that a forensic team has been deployed to the site and that pieces of evidence, including copies of CCTV footage, have been preserved. He added that investigators will also take the testimonies of all DPWH employees.
According to the initial investigation by the BFP, the fire was caused by faulty electrical connections on the third floor of the DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards building.
The compound remains cordoned off as authorities continue their probe into the incident. The fire reached the third alarm before it was finally declared under control.
