The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued a subpoena against PGMN host CJ Hirro, who has been named a person of interest in an alleged ₱350 million extortion complaint involving former House Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag confirmed the development in an interview with DZRH News, saying Hirro has been ordered to appear before the Office of the Organized and Transnational Crimes Division on May 11 to submit evidence and provide a sworn statement regarding the allegations.

The case stems from a complaint affidavit filed by a long-time aide of the former House Speaker, where Hirro was among those mentioned in connection with the alleged extortion scheme.

Authorities have not yet disclosed further details of the alleged incident, but the NBI said the subpoena is part of its ongoing fact-finding process to determine the extent of each individual’s involvement.

Hirro’s camp has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that he is a legitimate journalist with integrity and credibility. His legal counsel, Atty. Bernice Piñol Rodriguez also questioned the NBI’s decision to classify the broadcaster as a person of interest, arguing that the designation may be premature.

The investigation remains ongoing as the NBI continues to gather statements and evidence from all parties involved in the complaint.
