National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Chief Atty. Melvin Matibag said on Monday that it would be best for Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa to surrender his 117 firearms and turn himself in, according to a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.
“Dalawampung armas? Mabuti naman, pero sana ‘yung 117, i-surrender na… Kasama na rin si Senator Bato mag-surrender ano,” he said during a press conference.
Speaking to DZRH, Matibag said his agency will be coordinating with the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) to learn what firearm types were surrendered by the senator’s representatives and where these had come from.
In response to a press question as to Dela Rosa’s whereabouts, Matibag joked that he was “still on Earth.”
The NBI, the director said, receives daily reports on the senator’s possible location.
Out of the 117 firearms under Dela Rosa's name, 20 were surrendered to authorities after the revocation of his gun licenses, said the PNP.
“A total of 20 firearms were accounted for, properly recorded, and issued with corresponding acknowledgment receipts before being transported to the RCSU (Regional Civil Security Unit) 11 office at Camp Sgt. Quintin M. Merecido, Buhangin, Davao City,” the PNP said in a statement.
