President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to plan the construction of a new building for San Francisco High School in Santo Cristo, Quezon City, which was engulfed by fire on June 15.
The President issued the directive following his personal visit to the school on Wednesday morning to inspect the building affected by the fire. He was joined by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
President Marcos said the burned building can no longer be repaired due to compromised structural integrity.
"In the meantime, Public Works has already been instructed... na tingan nila, what it will take and how long can we rebuild it. Ang plano yata, itong two-stories, gawing four-stories," said the President.
Meanwhile, the President also assured that all damaged equipment, especially instructional materials, will be replaced.
It can be recalled that 16 sections from Grades 7 to 9 were affected by the fire that destroyed the two-storey building—eight sections in the morning and eight in the afternoon—affecting more than 600 students.
In total, San Francisco High School is expecting around 7,000 enrollees for school year 2025–2026.
