President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. cancelled his scheduled engagements, including the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) luncheon in Makati, on Tuesday morning, June 30, to monitor the situation surrounding the mass rally along EDSA, Malacañang said.
According to a report by Leth Narciso on Damdaming Bayan, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez said the President decided to stay in Malacañang to closely monitor developments as members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) held a rally near the EDSA Shrine.
Among the cancelled engagements were the inauguration of the Marine Clean-Up Vessel for the Enhancement in the Manila Bay Project and the Presidential Luncheon hosted by the FOCAP in Makati.
Later in afternoon, Marcos is expected to receive the credentials of the ambassador-designate of the United States to the Philippines and later hold a farewell call with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea.
The INC rally drew thousands of participants along EDSA, resulting in heavy traffic in parts of Metro Manila.
Authorities also reported tension in the area, with several protesters arrested during the gathering.
