Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was arrested on Monday after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant for his arrest in connection with a plunder case filed by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed that Marcoleta voluntarily surrendered to the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on July 6.
The arrest stems from charges filed before the Sandiganbayan Third Division, which is hearing the plunder case against Marcoleta, former congressman Mike Defensor, and two businessmen.
Marcoleta had arrived earlier at the anti-graft court for a scheduled hearing on motions filed by his legal team. Following the proceedings, he was expected to leave the court but instead remained at the Office of the Clerk of Court.
From there, he was escorted by CIDG operatives and members of the Quezon City Police District into the Third Division courtroom after the issuance of the arrest warrant.
Furthermore, the official arrest warrant states that no bail is recommended.
The case involves allegations by the Office of the Ombudsman that the respondents mishandled a ₱75 million campaign donation during the 2025 elections.
