Senator Rodante Marcoleta is currently considered “not fit to stand trial” after experiencing chest pain and neck pain following his arrest on Monday, July 6, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, Police Lt. Col. Benaly Bayani, chief of the Internal Medicine Department of the PNP Health Service, said Marcoleta remains under medical observation at the PNP General Hospital and is undergoing laboratory tests for further evaluation.

Bayani said the 72-year-old senator’s blood pressure remains unstable, although his condition is considered clinically stable because his symptoms have been occurring intermittently.

“Hindi pa po stable ang blood pressure niya sa ngayon. Pwede po nating sabihin na clinically stable siya kasi ang symptoms po ay on and off, pero yung blood pressure niya hindi po stable, fluctuating po talaga,” Bayani said.

Marcoleta’s blood pressure reached 140/90, according to Bayani.

Authorities continue to monitor the senator’s changing blood pressure and episodes of chest tightness while he remains confined at the PNP General Hospital.

Marcoleta was brought to the hospital on Monday after complaining of chest pain and elevated blood pressure following his arrest in connection with a plunder case.

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said medical procedures for Marcoleta could take about two days before he can be presented before the anti-graft court for the return of the warrant and the subsequent issuance of a commitment order regarding his detention.

For now, Marcoleta remains under observation while doctors await the results of his medical tests and further assessments.

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte visited Marcoleta at the PNP General Hospital at around 7:43 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.
