Senator Rodante Marcoleta is currently confined at the PNP General Hospital after experiencing chest pain and elevated blood pressure following his arrest in connection with a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said.

CIDG Director Major General Robert Alexander Morico II confirmed that the senator was brought to the hospital for medical evaluation after complaining of chest pain, with doctors also noting elevated blood pressure levels.

“Nagreklamo si Sen. Marcoleta ng chest pain at mataas yung BP niya. That's why dinala muna namin sa hospital. After ng medical niya, whatever na sasabihin ng mga doktor ng PNP, we will transmit it also kay Sandigan,” Morico said in a press briefing.

He added that Marcoleta’s blood pressure was recorded at around 150 systolic and that medical professionals are currently conducting further examinations, including an ECG.

“150 something. Eh ano na siya eh, 72 years old na,” he said, noting the senator’s age and ongoing assessment.

Morico said authorities will wait for the official medical findings before proceeding with his transfer and court-related requirements, including coordination with the Sandiganbayan for the return of the warrant.

“We will wait kasi ongoing ang medical niya doon. Nag-ECG, chine-check up siya ngayon ng mga doctors. Then we will inform yung Sandigan,” he added.

He further stated that if Marcoleta is declared fit for travel, authorities may proceed with the return of the warrant process within the day. Meanwhile, final detention arrangements will depend on the court’s instructions.

The development comes after Marcoleta was taken into custody in connection with the ₱75-million plunder case filed before the Sandiganbayan, alongside other co-accused, including former congressman Mike Defensor and Joseph Espiritu.
