Senator Ping Lacson expressed confidence that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla will not cave in to pressure from rallies staged by members of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in support of Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who is set to face plunder charges.

In a social media post on Tuesday, June 30, Lacson said he believes Remulla will stand by his decision despite the demonstration held by INC members in support of Marcoleta.

“Ombudsman Boying [Remulla] is tough as a Caviteño will always be. I trust that he won’t cave in to the INC rallies and pressure — not today, not tomorrow and certainly not when Sen. Marcoleta’s plunder case is filed in court as earlier announced,” Lacson said.

On Monday, Ombudsman Remulla announced that plunder charges would be filed before the Sandiganbayan this week against Marcoleta over the alleged non-disclosure of ₱75 million in campaign contributions during the 2025 elections.

“[Marcoleta’s] INC backers may block EDSA all they want and cause traffic jams and chaos to the discomfort of ordinary commuters,” he said.

He reiterated his confidence that the Philippine National Police (PNP) would effectively manage the situation and maintain public order throughout the demonstrations.

“Surely, the PNP will be there to maintain peace and order,“ he added.

Lacson's latest remarks came after he accused Marcoleta of "gaslighting" over the senator's claim that his impending arrest on plunder charges had long been orchestrated, citing one of Lacson's previous statements.

"It’s gaslighting time once more. The mention of nine senators being possibly incarcerated was a hypothetical statement in the context of determining the base number to compute the constitutional requirement of two-thirds vote of all senators actively participating or not in the impeachment trial," Lacson said.
