Kris Aquino has spoken out about the “irresponsible and uninformed opinions” directed at her eldest son, Josh Aquino, following a controversial podcast episode that drew backlash for its remarks about his autism.
In a social media post, the Queen of All Media explained why she chose not to publicly respond to the controversy, saying a friend advised her not to give attention to people seeking a reaction.
“By never stating their names, or my feelings, they didn’t get the word war from me they were expecting,” Aquino said.
Instead, she shared how Josh helps care for her amid her ongoing health struggles, saying he takes his turn looking after her from Monday to Friday.
Aquino recalled how Josh offers his shoulder for her to rest her head on during their afternoon naps, adding that he does his part in caring for his mother despite the challenges.
The controversy stemmed from a now-deleted episode of the Machong Chismisan podcast, in which its hosts criticized Josh’s autism and compared him with his younger brother, Bimby.
The remarks sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many defending Josh and people with special needs.
Aquino also revealed that she has been dealing with concerning test results and symptoms of a new autoimmune disease.
She thanked the medical staff of Makati Medical Center for respecting her privacy and said she would undergo her third infusion of a biologic immunosuppressant after her surgical sutures are removed.
Despite her health challenges, Aquino said she remains determined to keep fighting, noting that Bimby still needs more time to prepare for his lifelong responsibility of caring for Josh.
“That’s why ang mama nila hindi pa pwedeng isuko ang laban,” she wrote, thanking supporters for their prayers and encouragement.
