Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has officially joined the PDP-Laban, the party and the lawmaker announced on Wednesday, April 29.

In a social media posts, PDP-Laban confirmed that Barzaga took his oath as a new member following his participation in the party’s Basic Membership Seminar (BMS) held on April 29, 2026, at its national headquarters in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Barzaga also confirmed his affiliation in a separate Facebook post, sharing photos from the oath-taking ceremony alongside other new members.

“Congressman Kiko Barzaga is now an Official Member of PDP-Laban!” he wrote, adding the hashtag #Duterte2028.

According to the party, the seminar was facilitated by key officials and trainers, including Executive Director Ka Joy Encabo, Education Chairperson Ka Penny Belmonte, Legal Affairs Chairperson Ka Yvette Contacto, and trainer Ka JV Frech Marigondon, which the session covered the party’s core principles, advocacy, and goals.

Prior to his switch, Barzaga was a member of the National Unity Party.

However, his move comes as he faces mounting challenges in the House of Representatives. Barzaga is currently the subject of multiple complaints pending before the chamber’s ethics panel, raising the possibility of disciplinary action, including expulsion.

House Deputy Speaker Janette Garin said repeated violations could warrant stricter penalties. She noted that lawmakers who incur multiple suspensions may face expulsion, particularly if found to have persistently failed to meet institutional standards.

Barzaga had previously been suspended for 60 days in December last year, without salary and benefits, due to disorderly behavior linked to allegedly inappropriate social media posts.

In February, he was handed another 60-day suspension for what the House described as “utter contempt for institutional standards.”

Despite these sanctions, Barzaga has defended his actions, arguing that the penalties serve as a distraction from larger national issues. He pointed to alleged irregularities in flood control projects and broader concerns over corruption in government.

“This is still pushing the issue away from the flood control mess… as well as rampant corruption in the government,” Barzaga said.

He added that he does not regret his actions and believes other lawmakers should also be investigated in connection with the issue.
