Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga may face expulsion from the House of Representatives as the chamber’s ethics panel moves to address multiple complaints filed against him.

The House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by 4Ps Partylist Representative JC Abalos, convened to tackle pending cases involving Barzaga, as well as a separate complaint against Quezon City Representative Bong Suntay.

According to Deputy Speaker Janet Garin, repeated violations could lead to harsher penalties, including expulsion, especially if a lawmaker incurs multiple suspensions.

Garin herself filed an ethics complaint against Barzaga after he allegedly blamed her, her daughter, and Senior Deputy Majority Leader Lorenz Defensor for the death of an Iloilo vice mayor—despite reports that the official died due to accidental firearm discharge.

Garin said she had earlier warned Barzaga about the seriousness of congressional duties and the need to uphold the institution’s integrity but claimed his behavior remained unchanged.

She also revealed that some members of the ethics committee suggested Barzaga undergo medical evaluation before any additional sanctions are imposed. However, Garin noted that such a step should come from the lawmaker’s family, not from Congress.

For his part, Barzaga downplayed criticisms, saying some colleagues refer to him as a “cat,” implying a combative personality. he reportedly said, If he doesn't fight, then he's not a cat.

The ongoing ethics proceedings highlight growing tensions within the House, as lawmakers weigh possible disciplinary action that could escalate to Barzaga’s removal from office if violations persist.
