Former broadcaster Jay Sonza has been released from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Detention Center at around 7:00 p.m. on May 4, 2026, following the implementation of a court order, according to his legal counsel.

In a ">social media update, Atty. Mark Tolentino, Sonza’s lawyer, confirmed the release and described it as the enforcement of a “clear court directive.”

“Jay Sonza is now officially RELEASED from the NBI Detention Center bandang alas-7 ng gabi… sa wakas ay naipatupad ang malinaw na utos ng hukuman. Panalo tayo. Nanaig ang hustisya,” Tolentino said.

The development comes after Sonza was arrested and detained by the NBI in connection with allegations that he spread false information online regarding the health condition of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., based on a complaint involving alleged violations under cybercrime-related laws.

According to earlier reports, authorities said the case stemmed from posts circulating online that allegedly contained misleading claims about the president's medical condition, which prompted concern and led to legal action by state investigators.

Sonza’s arrest was carried out pursuant to a warrant issued by a court in connection with charges of alleged unlawful publication and cyber-related offenses.

His legal counsel has maintained that the charges are bailable and has questioned the legal basis of his detention, arguing that the court order ultimately allowed his release pending further proceedings.

Authorities have not yet issued a full statement regarding the conditions of Sonza’s release, while the case is expected to proceed in court as scheduled.

Sonza, a former television and radio broadcaster, has previously been involved in multiple legal and public controversies in recent years, many of which stemmed from his social media activity and public commentary
