The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines said Filipino travelers will continue to enjoy free short-term visas even as Japan implements higher visa fees for other categories starting July 1, 2026.
In an advisory, the embassy confirmed that temporary visitor visas for Philippine nationals—covering stays of up to 90 days—will remain gratis, meaning no fee will be charged.
The announcement comes as Japan enforces amendments to its “Cabinet Order on Fees Collected by Consular Officers,” which revises visa charges for applications processed at Japanese diplomatic missions abroad beginning July 1.
Under the updated scheme, visa fees converted into Japanese yen will rise to about 15,000 yen for single-entry visas and about 30,000 yen for multiple-entry visas. Payments are generally made in the local currency of the country where the embassy or consulate is located.
Despite the increase, the embassy emphasized that Filipinos applying for temporary visitor visas are not affected by the new charges.
Officials noted that visa fees may vary or be waived depending on the traveler’s nationality and purpose of visit. No fee will be collected if a visa application is denied.
Applicants who file through agencies accredited by Japanese diplomatic missions may also pay separate service or handling fees on top of the visa cost if a visa is issued.
The embassy advised travelers to check updated requirements and processing guidelines ahead of their planned trips, especially for visa types not covered by the fee exemption.
