The observance of the 128th Independence Day nationwide was generally peaceful and orderly, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.
According to PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., there were no reports of untoward incidents during the various demonstrations and public assemblies held in connection with the June 12 celebration, RH Edniel Parrosa reported on DZRH’s Balansyado.
Nartatez made the assessment while personally monitoring the security situation nationwide through the PNP Command Center at Camp Crame, alongside Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla. The latter kept watch over real-time developments with the help of the police’s nationwide live cameras.
The PNP earlier placed all units under full alert status and deployed nearly 9,000 personnel across the country to ensure the safety of the individuals engaged in various activities. The PNP Chief also noted that there were no validated threats related to the celebration.
Meanwhile, in Metro Manila, a police officer was sprayed with paint on the head and shoulder after confronting an individual allegedly vandalizing a wall along Kalaw Avenue.
The incident did not escalate further.
Nartatez commended police personnel for exercising maximum tolerance in dealing with demonstrators and maintaining peace and order throughout the celebrations.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) earlier announced that the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day in Metro Manila was generally peaceful, with no untoward incidents recorded during gatherings and activities.
