The celebration of the 128th Independence Day in Metro Manila was generally peaceful, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.
According to NCRPO MGen. Anthony Aberin, no major untoward incidents were recorded during the activities and gatherings held across the area on Friday. Moreover, Aberin said the police force’s full alert status may be lifted on Saturday, subject to the overall security situation and any developments that may arise, RH Jecelle Ricafort reported on DZRH'S Public Service Hour.
“Generally peaceful po yung assessment natin. Actually, mas peaceful po sa generally peaceful. Especially sa nangyaring parada tsaka sa flag raising po kanina,” Aberin told reporters.
Over 8,000 police personnel were deployed to ensure public safety and maintain order during the Independence Day events. The NCRPO also conducted an on-ground walkthrough of key areas in Manila, including the Senate, Quirino Grandstand, Mendiola, and Kalaw Avenue, to ensure security in the area.
Despite the peaceful outcome of the celebration, Aberin stressed that security operations remain in full swing throughout Metro Manila.
Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) stated that approximately 1,000 protesters took part in demonstrations across Metro Manila.
