The House of Representatives on Friday held a necrological service for the late Batanes Rep. Ciriaco “Jun” Gato Jr., who died at the age of 66.

In his eulogy, Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III described Gato as a proud “son of Batanes,” recalling his service as a physician and lawmaker.

Dy likened Gato’s work as a doctor to his role as a legislator, saying he continued caring for his constituents even after entering politics.

“Mula sa pagiging doktor na nangangalaga sa kanyang mga kababayan sa Batanes, naging doktor at mambabatas si Congressman Jun na naglingkod sa buong bansa,” Dy said.

Gato, a physician before entering politics, had served as Batanes’ lone district representative since 2019.

He was the chairperson of the House Committee on Health and was the principal author of several health-related measures filed in the House.

The provincial government announced Gato’s death on Monday.

His wake and viewing are being held at Arlington Memorial Chapels Felicidad 1 & 2 from September 22 to 26.

His interment is scheduled for September 27 at Everest Hills Memorial Park.
