

(UPDATED) Two people have been confirmed dead following a shooting incident at the Junior High School campus of Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, August 18.
According to Police Regional Office-Zamboanga PIO spokesperson PMaj. Shiela Mae Chang, the alleged shooter, who also died, is a Grade 8 student, while the victim is a Grade 10 student.
Chang said authorities are still determining whether there are other injuries related to the incident.
Authorities are also validating reports of a Facebook Live video that allegedly captured the shooting.
An investigation is ongoing, including efforts to determine the motive behind the shooting.
Based on the initial report of DZRH provincial reporter Jun Dimacutac, five gunshots were heard inside the campus, triggering panic among students and teachers.
Police personnel immediately responded and entered the campus following the incident.
Meanwhile, the university said it continues to coordinate with authorities as it awaits a full report on the incident. School officials have also coordinated with parents and guardians to ensure the safe pickup of students.
The university urged the public to respect the privacy of those affected and to rely only on official information as the investigation continues.
Classes at Ateneo de Zamboanga University were suspended Tuesday following the incident.
