The graduation of 12 out of 200 newly trained CAFGU Active Auxiliary members was put on hold on June 24 as the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division continues its investigation into allegations that a training instructor physically assaulted trainees inside Camp Capinpin.

The probe stems from a complaint involving an instructor with the rank of sub-sergeant who allegedly kicked and struck several trainees during a fellowship activity at the Division Training School on June 22.

According to one of the alleged victims who spoke to DZRH News on condition of anonymity, the incident occurred after a fellowship gathering where alcohol had reportedly been consumed.

The trainees were later ordered to form up, but some allegedly argued while others were unable to stand due to intoxication. The instructor allegedly became angry and physically assaulted several recruits, causing injuries to their ribs and sides.

2nd Infantry Division spokesperson Col. Michael Aquino confirmed that the graduation of the trainees involved has been temporarily suspended as part of standard procedure while the investigation is ongoing.

“Protocol kasi yan eh, pag may mga investigation is naho-hold muna. Kasi nga tinatapos yung investigation. But again, that's part of the protocol. Pag wala namang nakita mga infractions, pinapa-graduate naman siya,” Aquino said.

Aquino added that all concerns are being addressed through the military’s chain of command and assured that the process has mechanisms to handle such complaints.

“Everything is addressed through the chain of command. That’s the way we do things. And it has been working,” he said.

The accused instructor has been placed in isolation pending the outcome of the investigation. As part of the inquiry, the trainees involved will undergo psychological and physical evaluations.

Military officials said that if the allegations of maltreatment are substantiated, the instructor could face administrative sanctions ranging from demotion to possible discharge from military service.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
