The Philippine Army has launched an investigation into allegations that several graduating Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) trainees were physically assaulted inside Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal, on the evening of June 22.
According to an exclusive interview conducted by DZRH News with one of the alleged victims, an instructor identified as a staff sergeant allegedly assaulted trainees during a fellowship gathering after reportedly becoming intoxicated.
The trainee, who requested anonymity due to fears of retaliation and concerns that their graduation could be affected, claimed the instructor ordered the recruits to assemble for a formation. However, some trainees were unable to immediately comply because they had also been drinking during the event.
The victim alleged that the instructor became enraged and proceeded to kick and strike several trainees.
Some of the recruits reportedly sustained injuries to their ribs and sides as a result of the incident.
The alleged assault occurred just a day before the trainees' scheduled graduation, leaving some victims hesitant to publicly identify themselves or file formal complaints.
In response to the allegations, 2nd Infantry Division Commander Major General Ramon Zagala confirmed that the incident is already under investigation.
“It is under investigation,” Zagala told DZRH News.
The military official also assured the public that accountability would be enforced should the allegations be proven true.
“We will make those responsible answerable,” he said.
Meanwhile, Philippine Army Spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala also pledged a thorough investigation, emphasizing that the organization does not tolerate any form of abuse within its ranks.
Army officials have yet to release the findings of the investigation or identify the personnel involved. Authorities are currently gathering statements and evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Philippine Army has assured the public that appropriate action will be taken against anyone found responsible as the investigation continues.
