The government assured the public that the country’s fuel supply remains stable at an average of 50 days coverage, even as it continues to roll out targeted fuel subsidy measures to cushion the impact of global oil price volatility driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

During the Presidential Communications Office(PCO) press briefing on Tuesday, April 14, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin said the Philippines’ current fuel inventory remains “good and sufficient,” noting that supply levels vary per product but remain within safe thresholds.

“50 days on average on all products… pero magada po ang number na ito kasi binibigyan tayo ng 50 days to make the replenishment,” Garin said.

She added that diesel stands at about 49 days, gasoline at 54 days, kerosene at 105 days, while LPG remains the lowest at around 36 days.

Despite this, Garin stressed that the government is working to “soften the impact” of global oil price shocks.

"Pero tuloy tuloy parin kahit hindi natin kontrolado ang cause of the problem, we are trying to soften the impact to each and every household in the Philippines,” she said, pointing to the Middle East conflict as the main driver of price pressure.

She also confirmed that oil companies implemented a fresh rollback, with diesel, gasoline, and kerosene prices seeing reductions, while excise tax suspension measures are being finalized by economic agencies.

A key intervention announced during the briefing is a ₱10 per liter fuel discount program for public transport drivers, initially rolled out in Metro Manila. The program covers jeepneys and UV Express units and is supported by 52 participating gasoline stations under a pilot phase.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the subsidy aims to ensure continuous public transport operations.

“Ito po ay isang fuel subsidy program… importante po itong programa na ito kasi matitiyak po natin na tuloy-tuloy po ang pasada ng ating mga jeepney at UV Express,” Lopez said.

The government emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to manage the economic impact of global oil disruptions while ensuring energy security and transport continuity.
