Police are conducting forensic analysis of the social media activity, gaming history and chat records of the suspected shooter in the fatal shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University on Tuesday as authorities work to determine a possible motive.
According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said investigators have yet to establish what prompted the shooting, which left a Grade 10 student dead.
“We cannot tell as of now. We still have to do a full investigative report, analysis on his social media, interview with his parents, with the school,” Remulla told reporters at Camp Crame.
The investigation will also examine the suspect’s online activities and other digital records, including his gaming and chat history, as authorities piece together what led to the attack.
“It’s complicated. It will take a few, maybe a day or two before we get the whole picture,” Remulla said.
Initial reports said the suspected shooter was a high school student who allegedly livestreamed the attack on social media.
The suspect also died after the incident, but authorities have yet to determine whether he jumped from the school building or shot himself, Remulla said.
Police and other authorities are coordinating with school officials and the suspect’s family as the investigation continues.
