Authorities are investigating an incident in which a fire volunteer was allegedly blocked while responding to a blaze in Tondo.
According to Boy Gonzales' report, the responder is a volunteer from the MDSW Disaster Response Unit, which assists in emergency operations across the city.
In a video obtained by MDSW director Jay Reyes Dela Fuente, a commotion can be seen along a narrow street as responders attempted to pass through. The volunteer team was reportedly not immediately allowed to proceed despite the ongoing emergency.
There are also allegations that a man at the scene identified himself as a police officer and allegedly attempted to draw a firearm while arguing with responders.
Dela Fuente stressed the importance of giving way to all emergency vehicles and personnel, especially during fire incidents, to prevent the situation from worsening.
He also urged the Manila Police District to conduct a thorough investigation to determine accountability among those involved in the incident.
