The late Mary Ann de Vera, a Filipina caregiver killed in a missile attack in early March, has been formally inscribed in Tel Aviv’s official memorial honoring city residents who died in war and terrorism.
Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai invited Philippine Ambassador Aileen Mendiola to lay a wreath on behalf of the Philippine Embassy and the Filipino community in Israel during a commemorative ceremony recognizing victims of violence.
At 8 p.m. on April 20, sirens echoed across Israel marking the start of Yom HaZikaron, the national memorial day for fallen soldiers and civilians killed in hostilities.
The annual observance is held nationwide, with moments of silence and ceremonies in cemeteries, memorial sites and public spaces.
De Vera was reportedly killed on March 1 while attempting to bring her care recipient to a bomb shelter during a missile attack. She was the first reported Filipino casualty amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
