Former Bulacan 1st District Engineer Henry Alcantara has again returned a large amount of money to the Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of his restitution related to anomalous flood control projects in Bulacan, as reported byRH Boy Gonzales.
Justice Secretary Eric Vida said the latest return of funds is connected to Alcantara’s role as a state witness in several cases involving alleged corruption in government projects.
Alcantara returned P71 million on Friday, which authorities said was part of the alleged kickbacks he received from flood control projects.
This marks the second time Alcantara has returned money, after he initially turned over P110 million on November 28.
Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) Chairman and retired Justice Andres Reyes Jr. was also present during the presentation of the returned funds to the media.
Vida said the move was intended to show the ICI the actual restitution being carried out and to demonstrate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen cooperation among government agencies in the investigation and accountability of those involved in corruption.
