Dismissed Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan district engineer Henry Alcantara, on Friday, turned over ₱110 million to the government as part of a "restitution" process connected to the ongoing flood control fund scam.

According to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Fredderick Vida, the cash was surrendered through Alcantara’s legal counsel.

Vida added that the amount returned by the former official is only part of the larger P300-million identified in Alcantara’s initial disclosure.

Authorities will subject the funds to standard bank verification procedures before formally turning them over to the Bureau of the Treasury.

Alcantara, who was previously dismissed from government service, has been implicated in anomalies in infrastructure and flood control allocations.

He is currently detained at the Senate facility after the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee cited him in contempt.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) has recommended the filing of charges before the Office of the Ombudsman against Alcantara and several DPWH officials in connection with the alleged anomalous flood control projects in Bulacan.
