The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) held its 45th National Conference of Employers (NCE) on Tuesday, tackling how today’s workforce is being reshaped by technology alongside globalization and the demand for Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The conference was held at the Manila Hotel Pandanggo-Polkabal Hall with the theme, “Job Generation in a Technology-Driven Environment.” ECOP President Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. expressed the advantages and challenges surrounding the emergence of new technologies like AI.
Highlighting how Filipino employees must learn to adapt and upskill their workforce as AI is now being integrated in the hiring process for some companies. Recruiters hypothesized that its implementation could possibly replace some jobs in the market. Adding how employees can get ahead of this challenge by continuously learning, relearning, and unlearning the dynamics being enforced.
With the sudden decline in the quality of education and work environments, the shift poses a threat on how Filipinos could quickly rival the abilities that technology brings. Society must be swift with their actions, and invest in every individual’s education and training processes in the country.
In the new world of work, collaboration across sectors is vital to ensure that the quality of education meets the current and future demands of industries.
“We must ensure that no one is left behind as we embrace the changes in the future of work,” Ortiz-Luis said.
