MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Friday its new Spokesperson with the appointment of Ambassador Angelica Caraos Escalona to the position.
During a meeting with reporters in Pasay City, DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro welcomed Escalona, as she takes on the vital role.
“A career diplomat since 1996, Ambassador Escalona has served in various capacities at the DFA, including as Executive Director of the Office of Consular Affairs and Director of the Offices handling ASEAN, European, Asian, and American Affairs,” the DFA said in a statement.
“Overseas, she has represented the Philippines in key posts, most recently as Consul General in Toronto, Canada (2023–2025), as well as in Indonesia, Japan, and the United States. Her work has earned her multiple honors, including the Gawad Mabini – Dakilang Kasugo and awards from the Indonesian government,” the DFA added.
According to the DFA, Ambassador Escalona holds a Master’s degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University in Australia and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Tsukuba University in Japan.
An avid traveller since her youth, she continues to embrace new experiences wherever her assignments take her. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring good food and relaxing with a great movie, the DFA stated.
“The Department warmly welcomes Spokesperson Angelica Escalona as she takes on this vital role,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Escalona assured the members of the DFA Press Corps of her full support in accurately and clearly conveying the message of the Department.
“Sa ating Press Corps, you have my full support, I am here for you. With the Secretary and the other DFA officials, and of course our office of public diplomacy, we commit to provide you with timely, accurate and clear information,” Escalona said.
