Filipina tennis standout Alexandra Eala bowed out of the Stuttgart Open after a straight-sets loss to Leylah Fernandez, 1-6, 4-6, in the Round of 32 on Tuesday in Germany.
Ranked World No. 45, Eala struggled to find her rhythm against the 25th-ranked Fernandez, who dictated the pace early and never looked back to secure the opening-round victory. The match concluded early Wednesday midnight in Manila time.
The defeat marked Eala’s second consecutive early exit on tour, following her stint at the Linz Open, where she fell to World No. 22 Jelena Ostapenko in the second round, 4-6, 5-7, on April 8.
Despite the setbacks, there remains a bright spot for the rising Filipina star. After making her debut last year, Eala has secured a return to the clay courts of the French Open in 2026, earning a coveted spot in the main draw of the prestigious tournament at Roland Garros.
