Drag performer Angel Galang has issued an emotional public statement following intense backlash over her remarks about fellow drag artist Marina Summers’ hosting at the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 pageant, which previously sparked criticism and led to reports of a cancelled tour and online outrage.
In her ">statement, Galang admitted wrongdoing and reflected on the impact of her words, while also expressing concern over the threats she has been receiving. “Mga tao, nakilala niyo ako na madalas hindi seryoso at nilalaro nalang ang lahat ng bagay, pero may gusto lang ako ibahagi sa inyo. Nagkamali ako sobra sa nagawa ko, pero mali naman din siguro na pati buhay ko ay pinag-babantaan na,” she said. She added that the incident made her realize the weight of her actions and the importance of accountability, especially within the drag community. “Naintindihan ko na hindi lahat laro, hindi lahat ginagawang biro, or dinadaan sa saya lalo na kapag mabigat ang mga bagay-bagay,” she said, referring to lessons on “sisterhood” and genuine support. Galang also appealed for understanding despite the backlash. “Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa mga taong sumusuporta parin hanggang ngayon, pero parang hindi naman tama na hinihiling na mamatay ako,” she said, questioning the extent of hostility directed at her. She further acknowledged the need to be more careful with public statements. “Isa itong malaking pagkatuto sa akin na maging ma-ingat sa pagsabi ng mga opinyon, lalo na kung alam kong makakasakit ako ng damdamin,” she said. Galang said she will temporarily step back while reflecting on the situation and coordinating with appropriate parties regarding the threats. “Habang ako ay lalayo at patuloy na dadamdamin ang mga aral ng sitwasyon, makikipag-coordinate ako sa mga tamang tao dahil hindi naman din tama pati ang buhay ko ay pinagba-bantaan,” she added.
