The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is coordinating with German and Italian authorities on possible criminal and civil actions following a fatal bus crash in Bavaria, Germany, that killed two Filipinos and injured 31 others.
At a press briefing Thursday, Oct. 1, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the DMW is assisting the victims and their families while monitoring the condition of those still hospitalized in Germany.
DMW Undersecretary Jainal Rasul Jr., OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan and MWO Berlin Labor Attaché Delia Palomar are working with German police and legal counsels to expedite possible cases against the bus company, its operators and the drivers.
Most of the injured Filipinos have been discharged and safely returned to Milan, where they were received by the Philippine Consulate General and the Migrant Workers Office.
Two Filipinos remain hospitalized in Bavaria and continue to receive DMW-OWWA assistance.
“We have teamed up with Consuls General in both Milan and Frankfurt to ensure that justice will be delivered here,” Cacdac said.
DMW also said that the remains of the two Filipino casualties are being processed for repatriation in coordination with the appropriate authorities.
