The northbound lane of Dimasalang Bridge in Sta. Cruz, Manila is expected to reopen on October 20, ahead of the Undas observance, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said Wednesday.

Dizon made the assurance during his inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation works on the approximately 40-meter bridge on October 7.

He said only the asphalt paving and sidewalk works remain to be completed before the lane is reopened to motorists.

Dizon said the reopening is in line with the DPWH's commitment to complete the rehabilitation within four months to allow motorists to use the vital thoroughfare again.

“Sa mga kababayan po natin sa City of Manila lalo na ‘yung may mga kamag-anak na bibista sa North Cemetery sa Undas, makakaasa po kayo bago mag-Undas bukas na po tayo sa October 20,” Dizon said.

The reopening is expected to help ease traffic in the area as thousands of Filipinos are expected to visit the Manila North Cemetery during Undas.

The northbound portion of the bridge was closed on May 23 to make way for the rehabilitation and retrofitting works.

The project aims to restore the bridge's structural integrity, ensure public safety, and improve traffic flow along the major thoroughfare.
