The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday released new mugshots of former House Speaker and incumbent Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez.
Romualdez was transferred to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas on Monday night, September 14, following an order from the Sandiganbayan Third Division.
According to Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) spokesperson Jayrex Bustinera, Romualdez is currently staying in the jail’s infirmary ward with three other persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
His cell assignment was based on the assessment of his personal doctor and the evaluation of independent doctors from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), according to Bustinera.
The BJMP spox said Romualdez no longer needs to remain confined in a hospital as the BJMP is capable of providing the medical interventions he requires while in detention.
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Romualdez’s cell does not have air conditioning and uses a common bathroom.
Romualdez is scheduled to face arraignment and pre-trial proceedings before the Sandiganbayan on Wednesday, September 16.
He is facing a plunder case before the anti-graft court over alleged kickbacks amounting to more than ₱7 billion from various government projects.
