by Jim Fernandez15 September 2026

Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez arrived at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Quezon City Jail – Male Dormitory from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday night.

The lawmaker's convoy left the hospital around 10:10 p.m. and arrived at the QC Jail at 10:50 p.m, according to a report by RH 23 Edwin Duque.

Romualdez's convoy included the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and three BJMP vehicles.

Later that night, the BJMP released a statement confirming the development, according to RH 27 Noche Cacas.

“The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) confirms the commitment of Rep. Martin Romualdez to the Quezon City Jail–Male Dormitory at approximately 10:49 PM on September 14, 2026, in compliance with the Order of the Sandiganbayan Third Division,” it said.

Taking the lawmaker’s medical condition, the bureau placed him in the jail infirmary, with other persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who also require medical monitoring.

“The BJMP assures the public that it will remain professional, impartial, and consistent in the implementation of its rules and regulations. All PDL under its custody are treated fairly and humanely, without distinction or privilege based on status or position,” the bureau concluded.
