The death toll from the landslide at a landfill site in Cebu City has risen to six, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Cebu City said on Sunday.
Authorities reported that 31 individuals remain missing, while 12 others were rescued with injuries.
Search, rescue, and retrieval operations are ongoing at the landslide site in Barangay Binaliw. Responders are using heavy equipment, including a backhoe, to clear debris and access affected areas.
The Cebu City Public Information Office said a 50-ton crane will be deployed to assist in heavy lifting and debris removal to speed up rescue efforts.
“Response teams remain on high alert and committed to exhausting all efforts to locate the missing and ensure the safety of everyone involved,” BFP–Cebu City said, adding that updates will be provided as operations continue.
The landslide occurred at around 4 p.m. Thursday at a waste management facility operated by Prime Waste Solutions Cebu in Barangay Binaliw.
Additional support has arrived from rescue teams of APEX Mining in Davao de Oro, providing extra manpower and technical expertise.
Various agencies are also involved in the operations, including BFP–Cebu City, the Joint Task Group Cebu, the 53rd Engineer Brigade of the Philippine Army, and units of the Philippine Air Force, all deployed by the Visayas Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
