Security has been tightened in Davao City schools following the shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) on Tuesday, August 18.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO), under the leadership of City Director Police Colonel Peter Madria, conducted surprise inspections of Mobile Patrol Unit personnel in areas near Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School in Km. 7, Bangkal, and Police Station 15 in Ecoland, which covers schools along McArthur Highway, including areas near Matina Town Square, according to a DZRH report by RH Jhun Suter.
During the inspection, Madria reminded police personnel of the importance of maintaining a rapid response to any incident, immediately implementing lockdown protocols when necessary, and ensuring close coordination with other members of the security cluster.
Madria, together with Police Lieutenant Colonel D.C. Torres, Force Commander of the First City Mobile Force Company, also coordinated with school security personnel to further strengthen security measures.
Authorities said the intensified security efforts aim to ensure the safety of students, teachers, school personnel, and nearby residents, particularly during school opening and dismissal hours.
The shooting incident left two people dead, including the gunman, while nine others were reportedly injured.
