Damage to agriculture from the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano has reached ₱6.69 million, the Department of Agriculture in the Bicol Region (DA-5) said Tuesday.
At least 62 farmers have been affected, with about 11 hectares of farmland damaged and an estimated 84 metric tons of agricultural produce lost, according to the agency. A total of 33 farm animals have also been impacted.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating heightened unrest, with continued lava flows and other volcanic activity observed.
On Sunday, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. ordered the immediate mobilization of government agencies to assist communities in affected areas following ashfall from the volcano’s ongoing activity.
In response, DA-5, led by Regional Director Rodel Tornilla, has coordinated with local government units to assist in the evacuation of livestock and the distribution of face masks and medicines to affected communities.
The agency is also extending financial assistance through its Survival and Recovery Loan Program, offering loans of up to ₱25,000 to help farmers recover from losses.
