President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Sunday ordered the immediate mobilization of government agencies to assist communities in Guinobatan and Camalig, Albay, following ashfall from the ongoing activity of Mayon Volcano.

“Sa oras ng panganib, hindi dapat madagdagan ang hirap ng ating mga kababayan. Kaya ipinag-utos ko ang agarang pagkilos ng mga ahensya ng pamahalaan upang tumugon sa ashfall mula sa Mayon Volcano eruption,” Marcos said in a social post on Saturday.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has begun clearing ash from major roads to ensure accessibility. Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) is distributing N95 masks and deploying mobile clinics to address respiratory issues such as coughing, breathing difficulties, and eye irritation among residents.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), under the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), has also been deployed to conduct water spraying and ash-clearing operations in affected communities.

Evacuation efforts are being led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), which continue to monitor high-risk areas and coordinate safety measures for residents.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is distributing food packs, ready-to-eat meals, and other relief supplies to families in evacuation centers, with additional stocks prepositioned across the Bicol Region.

Marcos also instructed authorities to closely monitor rivers and waterways for possible lahar flows, particularly during heavy rainfall.

Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, stay indoors when possible, wear protective masks, and follow safety advisories issued by local government units.

The government continues to coordinate with local authorities to ensure that aid reaches affected families promptly and that communities remain safe.

“Alam nating may epekto ito sa kalusugan at kabuhayan ng ating mga kababayan, kaya’t tuloy-tuloy ang tulong ng pamahalaan hanggang makabalik sa normal ang pang-araw-araw na buhay ng bawat pamilyang apektado,” Marcos said.
