Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced that the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) will issue a subpoena to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on May 11, requiring him to personally appear for an investigation related to complaints filed against him in connection with the drug war.
In a press briefing on Sunday, Remulla said the move is part of an ongoing investigation into alleged crimes and stressed that it is not an arrest warrant.
“The CIDG will issue a subpoena tomorrow to General dela Rosa to appear personally before the CIDG office in aid of investigation of the previous crimes,” Remulla said.
“I repeat, this is not an arrest warrant but a subpoena for the senator and former chief of the PNP,” he added.
The DILG chief also clarified that the Philippine National Police is not cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“I repeat, we are not a member of the ICC. We are not working with the ICC. This is a purely internal matter that we are doing,” he said.
This follows Remulla’s earlier statement on Saturday that no public arrest warrant has been issued by the ICC in the Philippines, amid reports circulating online claiming that Senator dela Rosa was subject of an ICC warrant.
The ICC likewise confirmed that no public warrant has been released in relation to the Philippines.
