Two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett is set to return to the world of dragons, reprising her role as Viking warrior Valka in the live-action sequel to How to Train Your Dragon, as confirmed by entertainment outlet, The Hollywood Reporter.
Blanchett previously voiced Valka in the 2014 and 2019 animated sequels and will now bring the character to life alongside Mason Thames’ Hiccup, following last year’s live-action remake.
Franchise creator Dean DeBlois, who directed both the animated sequels and the live-action film, is back at the helm for the 2027 sequel. The previous live-action installment was a hit with audiences and critics alike, grossing $636 million worldwide.
Joining Blanchett are Gerard Butler as Stoick the Vast, Nico Parker, Julian Dennison, and Nick Frost, while fans are eagerly hoping other original voice actors, including Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera, might appear in future projects.
Blanchett’s return promises a thrilling continuation of the saga, blending epic dragon battles with family drama that made the franchise a global favorite.
