Anthony Head, the British actor known for his roles in the television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” died at 72, his daughters, Emily and Daisy, confirmed to the media.
His daughters announced his passing in a statement through the BBC, stating that their father “passed away peacefully of complications of pneumonia, surrounded by his family.”
Anthony played Rupert Giles, the Watcher and father figure of the Slayer Buffy Summers, for all seven seasons of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” He starred alongside Michelle Gellar.
Meanwhile, he played Rupert Mannion, the former owner of the AFC Richmond, in the television series “Ted Lasso.”
“It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,” his daughters said in a statement.
“We know how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans of the shows he was in — he loved his job very much, and he always considered himself incredibly lucky, to have been able to work alongside such exceptionally talented people, in such wonderful productions, across a career that spanned several decades,” they added.
Buffy Co-stars Mourn Anthony’s Passing
His Buffy co-stars also mourn Anthony’s death. In an Instagram post, Gellar expressed her sorrow and deep appreciation for the late actor.
“’Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok’ Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok. But I know I’m the lucky one because I knew you. Thank you to Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Emma Caulfield, who played Anya Jenkins, reminisced about a time when they went to the London Underground. She went to visit the late actor on the set of The Iron Man and spent time together exploring the city.
“It was a perfect day. There were many of these moments with this amazing human who I was lucky enough to call my friend for 27 years. He was kind and wise and a guide in troubled times. You were so loved,” she wrote.
David Boreanaz simply wrote on his Instagram story, “RIP. He was so kind and generous of a soul.”
James Marsters likened Anthony’s passing to having a hole in the world.
“He was an unflaggingly kind and steady presence on the set of Buffy, and the best actor in the cast. He was the best of us. I was lucky to have known, and learned from him. He left the world a better place for his presence. Thank you Tony for all you gave,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Born Anthony Stewart Head, the late actor first became known for his Nescafe advertisements in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is survived by his two daughters, Emily and Daisy, who are also actors.
