Residents of Baguio City woke up Thursday morning, January 23, bracing against the biting cold as temperatures plunged to 10.6 degrees Celsius from 11 degrees Celsius yesterday, January 22, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The cold weather extended beyond Baguio City, with several other areas also experiencing notably low temperatures.
Basco, Batanes recorded 16.2°C, followed by Tanay, Rizal at 16.3°C, and Malaybalay, Bukidnon at 17.6°C. Parts of Northern and Central Luzon likewise felt cooler conditions throughout the day.
In Metro Manila, the lowest temperature was recorded at 20.1°C at the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City early Thursday morning.
The state weather bureau explained that lower temperatures are being recorded in high-altitude areas and that this is expected to continue until February or March.
PAGASA said residents of the capital region should continue to expect cooler weather, accompanied by occasional light rains due to the influence of northeast monsoon or amihan.
