Ateneo de Manila University has reaffirmed its commitment to support members of its community who have been recommended for criminal charges by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), while urging the public to respect due process and refrain from speculation.

In a memorandum issued by University President Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ, the university acknowledged that it had been informed of the CIDG's recommendation to file criminal charges against several members of the Ateneo community.

"The University has been informed that criminal charges were recommended to be filed against several members of our community," the memorandum stated.

Fr. Yap emphasized that Ateneo respects the country's legal system and will continue to cooperate with authorities throughout the proceedings.

"The University respects the legal process and will continue to cooperate with the authorities. It will provide whatever assistance and support to these persons as they exercise their rights and defend themselves throughout the process," he said.

The university president also appealed to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community to allow the legal proceedings to unfold without prejudice or public judgment.

"I ask every member of the Ateneo community to allow the legal process to proceed free from speculation, prejudice, or trial by publicity. Our justice system demands that facts be tested, evidence be weighed fairly, and the rights of all parties be respected," the memorandum read.

Fr. Yap likewise called on the university community to remain united in prayer as it continues to mourn the deaths of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili while also remembering those facing legal proceedings.

"As we continue to grieve the tragic loss of ♱Rene Baterbonia and ♱Divine Adili, let us remain united in prayer for their families, for those who now face these legal proceedings, and for our entire University community. May we all be guided by truth, justice, compassion, and hope in the days ahead," he said.

The memorandum comes amid ongoing legal developments following the CIDG's recommendation to file charges. Ateneo said it remains committed to upholding due process while providing appropriate support to affected members of its community as the case moves through the judicial system.
