The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday confirmed that it has formally received a supplemental referral from the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in connection with the alleged hazing incident involving former Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin and 10 members of the university's coaching and support staff.

The supplemental referral stems from the ongoing investigation into the alleged hazing of Ateneo basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili, a case that has drawn significant public attention.

According to DOJ Spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez, the latest referral, recommends the filing of homicide and/or reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charges against those involved, subject to the evidence gathered and the applicable provisions of law.

“The DOJ confirms receipt today, 1 July 2026, of a supplemental referral from the CIDG in relation to the same matter. The supplemental referral recommends the filing of charges for homicide and/or reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, as the evidence and applicable law may warrant,” Martinez said.

Martinez explained that the supplemental referral will be treated as part of the original referral submitted by the PNP-CIDG on June 26, 2026, and will be included in the DOJ's ongoing preliminary investigation.

The DOJ emphasized that the referral itself does not constitute a finding of guilt but serves as an additional submission of evidence and recommendations from investigators. Prosecutors will evaluate the evidence and determine whether there is a sufficient basis to file criminal charges before the courts.

The DOJ has yet to announce the schedule for the next stage of the preliminary investigation as it continues its review of the evidence submitted by the PNP-CIDG.
