Local officials in Albay have urgently called for assistance, including N95 face masks and food packs, as communities continue to grapple with the effects of the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano.
Albay Governor Noel Rosal, together with mayors from the municipalities of Ginubatan and Camalig, as well as several barangay councils, issued the appeal following widespread ashfall that has affected nearly all villages in the two towns.
The volcanic activity began on Saturday, May 2, prompting immediate response efforts and increasing humanitarian needs.
Authorities reported that clearing operations are ongoing, led by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and supported by other government agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Major national highways in the province have already been cleared and are now passable.
However, access to several barangays remains challenging due to thick ash deposits from Mayon Volcano, slowing down mobility and relief distribution. Clearing teams are currently focusing on these affected areas to restore accessibility.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to conduct rounds in evacuation centers to ensure displaced residents receive adequate food supplies. Officials noted a steady increase in the number of evacuees seeking shelter as volcanic activity persists.
Local leaders emphasized the urgent need for protective gear and essential supplies, as residents face health risks from ash inhalation and ongoing displacement.
