5 Luzon dams continue releasing water amid Typhoon Uwan – PAGASA

Five major dams in Luzon continue to release water as heavy rains brought by Typhoon Uwan persist, the PAGASA reported Monday morning.

According to the latest update from the state weather bureau, additional gates were opened to maintain safe water levels in the following dams:

  • Angat Dam – 3 gates opened at 3.0 meters; releasing 450.00 cubic meters per second (cms)

  • Ipo Dam – 3 gates opened at 3.5 meters; releasing 497.50 cms

  • Ambuklao Dam – 8 gates opened at 8.0 meters; releasing 1,018.65 cms

  • Binga Dam – 6 gates opened at 9.5 meters; releasing 1,119.42 cms

  • Magat Dam – 4 gates opened at 7.0 meters; releasing 1,416.94 cms

Water levels have shown varying changes across the dams. At Angat Dam, the water level rose from 208.95 meters on Sunday to 210.37 meters on Monday, slightly above its normal high water level of 210 meters.

Ipo Dam’s level increased from 100.05 meters to 100.95 meters, remaining just below its normal high of 101.10 meters. Ambuklao Dam rose slightly from 749.48 meters to 750.36 meters, still below its normal high of 752 meters.

Meanwhile, Magat Dam’s level went up from 183.45 meters to 188.74 meters, remaining under its normal high of 193 meters. Binga Dam experienced a slight decrease from 573.20 meters to 572.78 meters, below its normal high of 575 meters.

PAGASA continues to closely monitor water levels as heavy rains from Typhoon Uwan persist across Luzon. As of 10 AM, Typhoon Uwan has continued to weaken as it moves farther over the West Philippine Sea.
