Camalig, Albay Mayor Caloy G. Baldo said 17 out of the 50 barangays in the municipality were affected by the ashfall, following Mayon Volcano’s eruption.
As of this morning, Baldo said over 8,000 families within the municipality alone were affected, although not all were evacuated. Mainly households with children and elderly individuals were brought to the evacuation centers, as they are more susceptible to health hazards which may be triggered by the ash blanketing the area.
Lalo na ‘yung may mga asthma, kung malalanghap talaga nila ‘yun, delikado po,” the mayor said in an interview on DZRH Stories: Pinoy Documentaries.
Baldo added that vegetable crops were also rendered unprofitable. A number of livestock also died as a result of the ashfall.
According to a report, renewed activity has been logged at the Mayon Volcano as of Sunday morning. State volcanologists observed fresh pyroclastic flows and numerous volcanic earthquakes.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 3.
