San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said authorities have launched an investigation into an online shooting threat against two Grade 7 students of San Juan Integrated School, assuring the public that security measures are already in place.
In a statement on Friday, October 9, Zamora said the San Juan Police had coordinated with the school and the families involved, gathered evidence, deployed personnel to the campus, and established a Police Assistance Desk.
Authorities are also working to identify the person behind the dummy Instagram account used to circulate the threat.
“I understand why parents, students and teachers are worried. Please be assured that this matter is being treated seriously and that security measures are already in place,” Zamora said.
The mayor added that the city's Local School Board had already approved the procurement of walk-through metal detectors and additional handheld metal detectors for all 13 public schools in San Juan, even before the incident.
Other planned security measures include stricter entry protocols, identification checks, increased police visibility, and emergency response drills.
“We will not wait for a threat to become a tragedy before we act,” Zamora said.
He also reassured parents, students, and teachers that the city government would continue implementing measures to protect students and ensure their safety on school grounds.
