Resigned Congressman Zaldy Co has released a Facebook video claiming alleged irregularities in the importation and distribution of key food commodities, including sugar, onions, and rice, implicating President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his family.
In his latest video, Co alleged that sugar collection amounting to ₱9 billion was reportedly shared among five companies to influence market prices. He also accused Martin Araneta, brother of First Lady Lisa Marcos, of controlling onion imports.
The ex-congressman also said that First Lady Lisa Marcos personally intervened to halt congressional investigations into these matters.
“Ang sabi ni Speaker, tinawagan daw siya ni First Lady Lisa Marcos at ipinapatigil ang imbestigasyon. Kaya walang natuloy at walang naparusahan. Dahil pala, kontrolado ng kapatid ng First Lady ang importasyon ng sibuyas,” Co said in his video statement.
Co further claimed that in preparation for the 2025 elections, former Speaker Martin Romualdez was asked by President Marcos to help cover campaign expenses for candidates. Romualdez reportedly offered SOP collections from the Bureau of Customs, which Co said totaled ₱11 billion.
Regarding rice, Co said that proposals to increase imports and lower tariffs to stabilize prices were not approved, contributing to rising costs that affected public sentiment toward the administration.
He also alleged the issue over the importation of fish, claiming that access to import permits is limited to a small number of companies, which he claims is driving up prices of common seafood.
Co stated in the video that these practices, in his view, benefit a small group of influential individuals, including the Marcos family, while ordinary citizens face higher costs for basic commodities. He indicated that further revelations would follow in the coming days.
As for writing, the claims have not yet been investigated by authorities, and the Office of the President or the individuals named have yet to issue a public response as of this report.
Earlier today, President Marcos Jr. released a video statement saying he “does not negotiate with criminals,” referring to Zaldy Co.
The President also reminded Co that his passport is set to be canceled as he faces pending charges from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) over his alleged involvement in the controversial anomalous flood control projects.
